What is Urea-moulding compound?
Urea-moulding compound is a thermosetting plastic made by mixing urea, formaldehyde, fillers and additives. The urea-formaldehyde resin acts as the binding agent, imparting heat resistance and electrical insulation properties. When heated and pressed, the resin undergoes condensation polymerization, hardening into a rigid molded part. Common fillers include wood flour and sawdust, making the compound affordable. Other additives control characteristics such as flame retardancy. The powder ingredients are dry blended and compression molded, after which heat curing completes the molecular cross-linking. Molded urea compound components withstand high temperatures and electricity, exhibiting stability, toughness and machinability for applications like electrical switches, household appliances and automotive parts.
