Melamine moulding compound is a thermosetting plastic used to make various commercial products. It consists mainly of melamine and formaldehyde powder that are blended together. When heat and pressure are applied, the chemicals react through condensation polymerization and solidify into an infusible plastic material. This moulding compound offers heat resistance up to 150°C, along with high mechanical strength, electrical insulation and chemical resistance properties. Its manufacturing involves dry blending, compression molding and heat curing. After molding, the cured parts can be machined as needed.
